The Mind

We have been designed by God, intricately woven, every cell programmed to function in a definite manner. Mind is one of the greatest assets that God has given us. It involves thoughts, imaginations, will or determination. But is the mind programmed? No, it’s not.
We get to decide what we think or imagine, we decide on how determined we are to reach a specific goal or complete an assignment. We have the power to make choices, to think right and to imagine good. A lot of bad experiences or circumstances can influence our mind, that is to say our choices, will, imaginations and thoughts. It can be abuse, traumas, rejection, offence, betrayal etc.
In Exodus chapter 5, God promised to deliver Israel from their slavery and oppression. He promised to redeem them and claim them as His own people. He promised to be their God and lead them to the land that He swore to give Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He promised to give them the land as their very own possession. On the contrary, in verse 9 of the same chapter we see that the Israelites refused to listen as they had become too discouraged because of the brutality of their slavery. The Israelites were so discouraged in their spirits that they refused to listen to the promises of God. They did not have the capacity to look ahead and envision what God had planned for them. They were unable to imagine the land flowing with milk and honey!
No matter how tough things have been with life, we can still choose to live it to the full potential as God intends for us. Apart from mind as an asset, we have been given the greatest power, the Holy Spirit by God the Father. Romans 8, talks about life in the Spirit. As children of God, we ought to let the Spirit lead us. We need to let the Holy Spirit control our mind and in doing so, we choose life and peace.
If there is anything that has caused a block in your mind and if you are unable to envision God’s plan and promises for your life then remind yourselves of Romans 12:2, which says, “…but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
The Holy Spirit will help renew your mind through the word of God. He will help you to see things with clarity. Quoting our Bishop Prophet Shyju Mathew: “Life doesn’t lead you; you lead life.”
We lead life by letting the Spirit of God to lead us. Deuteronomy 30:15-16, places before us the choice of life or death. It says, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statues, and His judgements, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”
What choices are you making today and by whose help are you making those choices?
Selah.
