Made For Pleasure – him over Him?

It was yet another day at work, and since there was not much to do, the gang decided to gather around one of those team building activity called ‘confessions’, or what is better know as ‘truth/dare’.

“Hmm… interesting!”, said the voice inside my head. To a christian, if there’s anything that is the ‘truth’, it is Jesus!

As we began having conversations, the initial bit was rather generic and casual, mostly revolving around our likes/dislikes and do’s/dont’s. As the conversation built up, it got a li’l intense when a colleague exclaimed, “This is getting boring. Let’s get on to some interesting topics and talk on these:
i. If you were asked to date someone from the team, who would it be?
ii. Somebody you would have a crush on!
iii. Somebody you’d like to go around or maybe sleep with!”

Ahh.. seriously? As a general rule, I could definitely choose between either answering these questions, or letting them know these weren’t questions I’d want to answer. However, above and beyond that, for me, these were definitely not questions I could even give a room for thought!

As he said that, verses started flashing before my eyes, especially, the red lettered words, which was speech made by Jesus Himself.

…But don’t think you’ve preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed.
Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices—they also corrupt (Matthew5:27(b),28 MSG)

Let’s not pretend this is easier than it really is. If you want to live a morally pure life, here’s what you have to do: You have to blind your right eye the moment you catch it in a lustful leer. You have to choose to live one-eyed or else be dumped on a moral trash pile. And you have to chop off your right hand the moment you notice it raised threateningly. Better a bloody stump than your entire being discarded for good in the dump. (Matthew5:29,30 MSG)

This was the brutal truth right out of the pages of scripture. For real, our minds need to be under arrest and subject to Christ, otherwise before we know, we can jump on any random train of thought, and get caught in the downward spiralling vortex, because hey, your thoughts matter!

It may look like nobody really knows what this mind has been thinking, but HE, who is Jesus, sure does!

There’s so much more to what God can do compared to what man can offer to a broken, carnal self.

he can fill your heart with pleasure, but HE can fill you with pleasure forevermore.
he can be hot, so is hell!
he can love you for a moment, but HE can’t let go of you, no, not for a moment!
his hurt can’t heal you, but HIS wounds still do!

The lyrics to a song that comes to my mind goes this way:

“Oh how many times have I broken Your heart. But still You forgive, if only I ask”
– Hillsong (All for love).

So then, if I had to ask you,
Whose pleasure are you made for?
What kind of thoughts, bring pleasure to your soul?
What thoughts are you called to think?

If I could, I would take every chance to remind you that you are a daughter or a son of the Most High. If there’s ‘pleasure’ you are called for, it is in ‘HIM’. The Word saysThou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11 KJV)

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16 ESV)

…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5b NIV)

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)

the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise. (Isaiah 43:21 ESV)

Thanks for taking time to read this. It’s OK if you’ve been brought to a place in life where you don’t have answers to questions. But here’s what you can do. Be still. Flip through the pages of scripture and look for every word that speaks to build your spirit.

You’re Precious!
