The Power of Delighting in the Lord

The word delighting means is to take great pleasure in something or to be pleased in something or someone. To be delighted in something or someone requires full devotion and total commitment. Intimate relationships are built when two people take delight in each other. In this blog, my heart is to briefly write about the importance of delighting in God.

The Birth of Delight

God in His kindness, called us His friends and it is our greatest privilege to accept the invitation. God has given us to be His lovers, friends and His beloved children. There is no greater gift we have received apart from God providing us to find delight in Him.

It began with God, even before we could delight in God, God delighted in us. Our act of finding delight in Him is just a reciprocation of what He has already sacrificed for us. And the important goal of our lives must to be reciprocate His love by finding our delight in Him.

Why to Delight in the Lord?

The Bible says, “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” – Psalms 1:2-3 NLT

There is something powerful about a Child of God who delights in the Lord and His ways. The whole world may go through a lack emotionally, mentally, physically and even spiritually. But a child who delights in the Lord will walk a path that is entirely different from what the world is walking. Fear will not be their food, lack of peace will not be their portion. Rather they will walk each day in confidence and full of hope.

The psalmist says,
“Because they delighted in the Lord, they are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

Here are the few benefits of delighting in God.
• Our relationship with God will have constant freshness.
• We will experience growth in our spiritual realm
• We will see prosperity in our spirit, soul and body.
• We will be capable enough to outpour Christ in many lives
• Our intimacy with the Lord builds as He becomes our delight.

How to Delight in the Lord?

Our thoughts build our attraction and we begin to dwell on it. If we are constantly in the company of someone who speaks negativity, then negativity will be our portion. If we are constantly watching things that will allow fear and anxiety, then that will be our portion.

5 things to know to find your delight in Him
1. Know His word
2. Know His thoughts
3. Know His desires and will
4. Know His heart
5. Know His likes and dislikes

An example of love and delight is when a man and woman love each other wholeheartedly as described in Song of Solomon 7. When they pour out their love, they will give each other their everything. They don’t hold back their time, devotion or resources. When we show our love for God by holding back nothing and giving our everything we are becoming people that delight in God. As we take time to delight in Him, God is delighting in us too.

In conclusion, firstly, God delighted in us and our delight in Him is just a reciprocation of His love. Secondly, when we take time to delight in Him, we open doors to an atmosphere that this world cannot give. Lastly, the way to delight in Him is through His word, through obedience, by knowing His likes and dislikes, and by knowing His heart.

As you read this, let it seal your heart. Confess this and seal it in His name, say this prayer out:

Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for calling us friends of You. May delighting in you be our greatest privilege.
May our focus shift from people to You. Everything that is in our heart apart from you is removed and replaced with more of Jesus. In Jesus Name, Amen.
