Scripture Reading: Zechariah 9:9 NLT

[9] Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey- riding on a donkey’s colt.

1. A Fleeing Church

Zechariah 2:6-7 NLT

[6] The LORD says, “Come away! Flee from Babylon in the land of the north, for I have scattered you to the four winds. [7] Come away, people of Zion, you who are exiled in Babylon!”

– flee from temptations

– flee from traditions

– flee from ‘self’

Hebrews 12:2 NLT

[2] We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

2. A Pure Church

Zechariah 13:9 NLT

[9] I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘These are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.'”

– yes to the discomfort of God’s fire

– yes to the change he is leading us to

– yes to a real relationship with Jesus

2 Corinthians 1:20 NLT

[20] For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

3. A Praying Church

Zechariah 12:10 NLT

[10] “Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.

– receive a spirit of grace

– receive a spirit of prayer

– receive a spirit of mourning

James 5:16 NLT

[16] Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

4. A Spirit-Filled Church

Zechariah 4:6-7 NLT

[6] Then he said to me, “This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. [7] Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!'”

Zechariah 10:12 NLT

[12] By my power I will make my people strong, and by my authority they will go wherever they wish. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

– walk in the power of Spirit – no relying on force or strength

– walk in the strength of the Spirit – nothing is impossible

– walk in the authority of the Spirit- no power can stand against you

Romans 8:11 NLT

[11] The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

5. A Universal Church

Zechariah 6:15 NLT

[15] People will come from distant lands to rebuild the Temple of the LORD. And when this happens, you will know that my messages have been from the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. All this will happen if you carefully obey what the LORD your God says.

Zechariah 8:22 NLT

[22] Many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD of Heaven’s Armies and to ask for his blessing.

– come to rebuild the temple

– come to seek God

– come to ask for His blessing

Matthew 28:19-20 NLT

[19] Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [20] Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
