Where is my honour & respect?
(Malachi 1)

Malachi 1:6 NLT
The LORD of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests: “A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name!

Malachi 1:6 NLT
But you ask, ‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’

1. By doubting his love

Malachi 1:2 NLT
“I have always loved you,” says the LORD. But you retort, “Really? How have you loved us?”

– trust his promises
– believe on his word
– constant thanksgiving

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! (1 John 3:1 NLT)

2. By offering defiled sacrifices

Malachi 1:8 NLT
When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn’t that wrong? And isn’t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased?

– give God your best
– constantly inspect heart before worship & giving
– love with everything

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ (Matthew 22:37 NLT)

3. By dishonest actions

Malachi 1:12a NLT
“But you dishonor my name with your actions.

– repent from intentional sin
– intentionally practice right living
– glorify God in everything

Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:16 NLT)

4. By corrupt speech

Malachi 1:13a NLT
You say, ‘It’s too hard to serve the LORD,’

– avoid cursing
– stop lying
– flee gossiping

And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! (James 3:10 NLT)

5. By a life of disobedience

Malachi 1:13b NLT
You turn up your noses at my commands,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.

– meditate the word
– attentive to his voice
– jump into the sea

Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 NLT)
